Pocket Garden, Brighton
The Brief:
In Port Hall, Brighton, we faced the challenge of transforming a tiny east-facing courtyard into a functional and aesthetically pleasing space. The family desired a built-in seating area amidst lush planting in their small garden, which was uniquely accessible only through the house.
Overview:
Addressing the small garden design in Brighton, we first tackled the significant level change and a deteriorating retaining wall at the garden's rear. A new wall construction and a slatted cedar fence installation were crucial to provide privacy and stability in this tiny space.
The centerpiece of this small garden design in Brighton was the wrap-around cedar bench paired with raised fibreglass troughs. This arrangement maximised the limited space, allowing the family to immerse themselves in the garden's greenery. We chose a mix of culinary herbs, ornamental grasses, and perennials to ensure year-round interest and seasonal variation in this Brighton small garden. To add a sensory dimension, Star Jasmine, with its sweet fragrance, was trained up the fence.
Result:
The transformation of this small garden in Brighton was remarkable. The innovative design of the seating area and the strategic use of space turned the tiny courtyard into a delightful garden oasis. The mix of plants provided both aesthetic appeal and practical use, aligning perfectly with the family's needs and made the most of the little space they had available.
